Education and work might be a big thing in Thuringia but not 24 hours a day. A famous German saying is: “An empty stomach does not like to learn”, maybe that’s why we invented one of our specialities: the Bratwurst (you really should try it, it’s delicious).

And because it is no fun eating alone, Thuringians are also very good at inventing festivals. Like the onion market (which has existed since 1653) or the art festival in Weimar, the festival on the steps of the cathedral in Erfurt or even carnival, which has been celebrated by the people of Wasungen for over 450 years now.
